Fun Facts

  • Mary Queen of Scots, the most famous of the Stewart monarchs, was born in Linlithgow Palace in 1542.
  • The restored King's fountain at Linlithgow Palace, which dates from 1538, is Britain's oldest surviving fountain. One of the earliest piped water supplies in Scotland, it Is claimed that the fountain flowed with wine during royal feasts staged by the Stew
  • Dysart Harbour was transformed into the French port of Le Harve in the 1740's during season 2.
  • Culross, the beautifully restored 16th/17th century village which features as "Cranesmuir" was 'saved' for that restoration by a lack of money to clear away what had become insanitary housing.
  • The ancient town of Falkland was transformed into 1940's Inverness. Look out for The Covenanter Hotel which became Mrs Baird's guesthouse.
