Full Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Edinburgh/Glasgow - Fort William - Inverness
Departing from Edinburgh and Glasgow we enter the untamed and ancient landscape of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. We’ll drive the entire length of Loch Lomond, making a stop in the picturesque village of Luss so you can enjoy a stroll along the "bonnie, bonnie banks”. Please note if there are no passengers joining in Glasgow the tour will route via Stirling.
Marvel at the expanse of Rannoch Moor then hear the sad story of Glen Coe as we stop to view the sinister beauty and soak up the atmosphere of Scotland’s most famous glen. It’s a short drive to Fort William, nestling in the shadow of Ben Nevis, where we’ll stop for lunch.
After lunch enjoy a relaxing drive through the spectacular scenery of the Great Glen. We’ll make a stop in the attractive village of Fort Augustus so you can enjoy a stroll along the banks of Loch Ness. Later we’ll drive the 24 mile shoreline of the loch, stopping at the romantic ruins of Urquhart Castle for photographs. We arrive in Inverness, our home for tonight, in the early evening.
Day 2 - Inverness - Cairngorm National Park - Edinburgh
We start today with a visit to Culloden Moor, to discover how Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite army was routed by Government troops in the last battle ever fought on British Soil. Alternatively you can choose to explore the evocative Clava Cairns which are an extensive network of standing stones and burial cairns that date from the Bronze Age and are about 4,000 years old.
Tomatin Malt Whisky Distillery dates from 1897. Here you can experience a behind the scenes tour then enjoy a tasting of an award-winning single malt that the expert distillers have lovingly produced. After a stop for lunch we continue our drive southwards past the ruins of historic Ruthven Barracks.
Our next visit is to the fascinating Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore. In this living museum you’ll get a flavour of how our Highland ancestors lived and worked. Set in beautiful surroundings there’s much to explore including the 1700’s Township (featured in Outlander!) and a working croft. Don’t miss the pinewood which is a recognised hot-spot for red squirrel spotting!
The last part of our journey includes a visit to the charming town of Pitlochry, in the heart of the Perthshire hills then a drive through the ancient Kingdom of Fife. Enjoy amazing views of the iconic Forth Rail Bridge and the new Queensferry Crossing as we make our way back into Edinburgh.
If the starting point of your tour was Glasgow the coach will make a stop at Edinburgh Waverley Station. Here you’ll board an express train for the 50 minute journey back to Glasgow. The ticket price is included in the cost of the tour fare.
