We leave Inverness behind and travel along the banks of the Beauly Firth. Our first stop of the day is in the attractive town of Beauly. The name derives from the French, Beau Lieu (meaning beautiful place) and was so named by the monks that built a priory here in the 13th Century.

Next we make our way to Muir of Ord where, if you wish, you can visit Glen Ord Malt Whisky Distillery * for a behind the scenes tour followed by a tasting of the end product (when the distillery is closed there will be an extended stop in Beauly)

Enjoy panoramic views as we travel through the Black Isle. Shortly the expanse of the Cromarty Firth will come into view. This deep estuary is almost landlocked and this natural defence made it an important naval base during both World Wars.

For nature lovers the Cromarty Firth has one of the largest areas of unspoilt mudflats in the UK making it an important staging post for waders and wildfowl as they migrate south.

Our visit to the sleepy fishing village of Cromarty is like a journey into the past with its quaint fishermens cottages, crow-stepped houses and grand sandstone mansions. Once this attractive town was the major port for the North of Scotland, however the industrial revolution meant that this prosperity did not last long. The character of the village has been retained though, thanks to the careful conservation work that has been undertaken here.

After time in Cromarty we will make our way to Rosemarkie and Fortrose, where we will stop at Chanonry Point. The Moray Firth is home to a community of some 130 Bottlenose Dolphins and Chanonry Point is a popular vantage point with fans of these loveable mammals.

We return to Inverness over the Kessock Bridge which allows wonderful views over the Moray Firth below. This most enjoyable tour is a real taste of the Highlands!

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can children travel this tour?
Children aged 3 years and older are welcome to travel on this tour. Children aged 3 to 15 inclusive travel at the appropriate child rate. We are sorry but children below the age of 3 cannot travel on this tour.
How many people will be in the group?
The group size is normally 16 passengers. At times of peak demand (such as on public holidays) larger coaches may be used.
What features will the coach have?
You will usually travel in a modern eco-friendly minicoach which is equipped with air-conditioning, comfortable reclining seats, large picture windows and seat belts.
    Will I see Dolphins?
Chanonry Point is one of the best places in Europe to see dolphins as they move and feed through a relatively narrow channel. The dolphins are wild animals and are unpredictable. They come and go as they wish, however over the years we estimate that about 50% of our tours experience seeing these wonderful mammals.
Will there be a tour commentary?
Each tour is led by an experienced driver/guide who will provide an informative and entertaining commentary in English. Youll hear tales of the Clans, bloody battles and the famous characters that have shaped the history of Scotland. You will learn too of the landscape that surrounds you and of the nature that makes Scotland so special. Be ready to have a laugh as well - youre bound to be told some really corny jokes!
Can I reserve specific seats on the coach?
Seating on this tour is on a first come, first served basis and cannot be pre-booked. If you are travelling as part of a group please make sure that all members of the party arrive at the departure point together.
Ive missed my tour because I was late, can I get a refund?
Were sorry but refunds or credits wont be issued if you miss your tour because you are not at the departure point on time. In fairness to all our passengers coaches will not wait if you are late.
