Your day of exploration starts with a scenic drive along the shores of Loch Ness, then heads west to the beautiful Isle of Skye, where we explore the striking Cuillin Mountains. Take a wander around Portree’s vibrant, colourful harbour before exploring the alluring Fairy Glen. We then hike to the base of the mythical Old Man of Storr and take in the dreamlike scenery of the Quiraing. On the way back to Inverness, we will stop to admire the stunning Eilean Donan Castle as this day of memorable and unique landscapes comes to a close.

Full Tour Itinerary

The day begins with a majestic drive along the banks of mysterious Loch Ness - keep a lookout for legendary Nessie as your guide shares the tales and fables of Scotland’s most famed loch.

As we pass through the tranquil village of Invermoriston, the views will shortly change into a jagged wilderness. Your guide will share the remarkable history that helped shape these remote glens, and as we head west, the striking summits of the Five Sisters of Kintail come into view.

Soon, we cross the bridge to reach the Isle of Skye. After a scenic coastal drive, our first stop is at Sligachan. During the stop, we visit the charming old stone bridge to admire the views of the Red and Black Cuillins. Here, you will have the opportunity to take part in a short hike with your guide to explore the dramatic landscape, following cascading streams and ancient rowan trees.

Picturesque Portree, Skye’s iconic harbour town, is next. You’ll have 45 minutes to explore the pastel-painted waterfront, meander around the local shops, or make the short climb to the Apothecary Tower for superb panoramic views over the town and bay.

We continue our tour heading north to discover the magical Fairy Glen - a dreamlike landscape of cone-shaped hills and craggy rock formations, said to have been sculpted by the “wee folk”. Here, you will have the opportunity to climb up to Castle Ewen and immerse yourself in glen’s otherworldly beauty.

The adventure continues to the breathtaking Quiraing, a Jurassic landscape of landslips and towering cliffs. Join a short hike or unwind and take in the stunning scenery featured in films like Stardust and Prometheus.

For our next stop, we explore the legendary Old Man of Storr, a dramatic 55-metre basalt spiral that towers above Loch Leatham. This walk offers incredible views across the Sound of Raasay to the islands of Raasay and Rona.

Before heading back to Inverness, we pause at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, perched on its own little island. Our return journey concludes around 21:00.

What can I expect on this hiking day tour?

This hiking tour will let you experience the very best of the Isle of Skye. During the journey from Inverness, your experienced driver/guide will introduce you to many aspects of our country: spectacular scenery, history, folklore, nature, and much more.

With more than 7 hours planned on the island, you will have time to explore Portree, the island’s main town and enjoy guided hikes at Slighachan (Cuillin Mountains); Fairy Glen; Quirang and The Old Man of Storr.

Luxury travel is provided by air-conditioned mini coach. Although stops are planned for meals and comfort breaks, we recommend bringing snacks and cold drinks.

What should I bring and wear?

Sturdy footwear is a must, as you will trek across uneven and occasionally muddy trails. You should opt for hiking trainers or boots. Pack a waterproof jacket and a warm layer like a fleece or jumper. Waterproof over-trousers are a bonus, especially if a sudden downpour hits.

Bring a small rucksack to carry extra layers, water, and snacks to keep you fuelled.

Jeans get uncomfortable when wet and are slow to dry, making movement difficult.

While midge repellent isn’t usually necessary due to the typically windy conditions on Skye, calm weather may attract them at Sligachan. In that case, Smidge is an excellent choice to keep the tiny biters at bay.

Can I reserve specific seats on the coach?

Seating on this tour is on a first come, first served basis and cannot be pre-booked. If you are travelling as part of a group please make sure that all members of the party arrive at the departure point together. On the train journey from Inverness to Edinburgh (or Glasgow) you will have allocated seats.

I’ve missed my tour because I was late, can I get a refund?

We’re sorry but refunds or credits won’t be issued if you miss your tour because you are not at the departure point on time.

In fairness to all our passengers coaches will not wait if you are late.

Can I bring my dog with me?

We are really sorry but we are unable to carry dogs (except guide dogs) on our tours.
