Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect on this cruise/coach tour?
These enjoyable tours are a combination of luxury touring by coach and a relaxing cruise on the mysterious waters of Loch Ness. You’ll depart from the centre of Inverness by comfortable midi- coach with a local driver/guide providing a full commentary in English. Later in the tour you’ll board a cruise boat for a monster-spotting cruise on Loch Ness!
All Cruise/coach tours include a visit to Urquhart Castle which stands guard overlooking the dark waters of Loch Ness. Once one of Scotland’s mightiest strongholds, Urquhart’s strategic location gave it a key role in the Scottish battle for independence. You’ll have access to the visitor centre which includes a fascinating display of artefacts and audio-visual presentation that tells the story of the castle’s history.
All cruise boats feature seating inside and out, heated saloons, refreshment bars, toilets and free wifi. A popular feature is the sonar display – keep a careful watch and you could be first to spot Nessie!
Can children travel this tour?
Children of all ages are welcome to travel on this cruise/coach tour. Special child prices are available for children aged up to 16 years of age.
How many people will be in the group?
The group size is normally around 33 passengers. At times of peak demand (such as on public holidays) larger coaches may be used.
What features will the coach have?
You will usually travel in a modern eco-friendly midi touring coach which is equipped with air-conditioning, comfortable reclining seats, large picture windows and seat belts.
Tell me more about Urquhart Castle?
Wild natural beauty and 1,000 years of history - Urquhart Castle offers a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic.
Discover 1,000 years of drama, experience a glimpse of medieval life and enjoy stunning views over Loch Ness from the ruins of the greatest castle in the Highlands.
Climb the Grant Tower that watches over the iconic loch, peer into a miserable prison cell, said to have held the legendary Gaelic bard Domhnall Donn, and imagine the splendid banquets staged in the great hall. A more comfortable view of the iconic ruins, against a backdrop of Loch Ness and the hills of the Great Glen, can be enjoyed from the café. Urquhart’s stories are also told through a remarkable collection of artefacts left by its residents, historic replicas, including a full-sized, working trebuchet siege engine, and a short film.
The castle has a distinctly Highland heritage and the site has witnessed some of the most dramatic chapters in our nation’s history. This is where St Columba is said to have worked miracles in the 6th century, where acts of chivalry and defiance provided inspiration during the Wars of Independence and where the MacDonald Lords of the Isles struggled with the Crown for power.
What should I wear?
Wear layers as the temperature on the loch can vary. We recommend bringing a rain jacket, just in case!
Will there be a tour commentary?
An experienced driver/guide will host the coach tour portion of the tour. They will provide an informative and entertaining commentary in English. You’ll hear tales of the Clans, bloody battles and the famous characters that have shaped the history of Scotland. You will learn too of the landscape that surrounds you and of the nature that makes Scotland so special.
On the cruise portion of the tour a crew member will provide a full commentary on the history and nature of Loch Ness including Nessie, of course!
I’ve missed my tour because I was late, can I get a refund?
We’re sorry but refunds or credits won’t be issued if you miss your tour because you are not at the departure point on time. In fairness to all our passengers coaches will not wait if you are late.
