From Inverness, the first stage of the tour follows the brooding banks of Loch Ness, with a stop at Invermoriston to view the dramatic waterfall and Thomas Telford’s historic bridge.
The Five Sisters mountain range rises impressively along the route through Glen Shiel towards Eilean Donan Castle. Standing proudly at the head of three lochs, there is a stop to explore the iconic ramparts that have starred in so many big-screen adventures.
More adventures await as the coach uses Eilean Ban as a stepping stone to arrive on the Isle of Skye. Passing the islands of Scalpay and Pabay, the breathtaking scenery is around every corner, with a stop at Sligachan Bridge to admire the imposing Cuillin Hills.
Then it’s on to Portree, with its pastel homes snuggled along the harbourfront. Lunch could come courtesy of the local fishermen, with sizzling chips the perfect accompaniment to the freshest of catches.
This afternoon, Skye’s natural icons complete the circuit: the towering Old Man of Storr and the basalt cliffs of Kilt Rock.
After returning to the mainland, the tour takes in Kyle of Lochalsh, Loch Carron and Achnasheen, before the journey crosses the Black Isle and returns to Inverness.
