Leaving Inverness behind we’ll travel over the Kessock Bridge to the Black Isle and onwards to Achnasheen. Our journey continues through the striking beauty of Glen Carron to reach the highlight of our day together, the Isle of Skye.
The Island of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides and it’s thought the name could mean "Winged Isle” in Gaelic. Our entry to the island is by way of the Skye Bridge and almost immediately we’ll make a photo-stop in the little fishing village of Kyleakin so you can capture the view.
The island has some 400 miles of coastline and the next part of our journey offers wonderful views over the silvery sea lochs to the islands of Scalpay and Raasay. The Cuillin Mountains dominate the skyline. We’ll stop at Sligachan where there are impressive views of the Red and Black Cuillin Mountains to savour.
The Trotternish Peninsula provides an epic landscape with unique rock formations that were formed by massive landslips that took place 65 million years ago. See the Trotternish Ridge and the Old Man of Storr, a rock pinnacle that rises to 50 metres.
Kilt Rock is our next stop. This impressive sea cliff is formed of basalt columns whose different colours and lines are said to resemble tartan. The view is even more special thanks to the waterfall that cascades over the cliffs into the Sound of Raasay 60 metres below.
There’s a chance to get "up close and personal” to the weird and mysterious stone formations of The Quiraing next. They create a unique and awe-inspiring vista that’s popular with film-makers and you may recognise them from films such as The BFG, Stardust and Prometheus.
We’ll make a stop in Faerie Glen to explore the bizarre, yet natural landscape of grassy cone-shaped hills before making our way to Portree, the island’s main town. There’s free time to explore this attractive community – don’t forget to seek out the colourful houses that surround the harbour.
Back on the mainland we’ll make a photo-stop at Eilean Donan Castle. This is one of Scotland’s most iconic sights and a great place for a selfie! As we travel through Glen Shiel look out for the "Five Sisters of Kintail”, a group of five mountain peaks four of which are over 914 metres tall.
The last part of our journey will take us along the banks of mysterious Loch Ness. We’ll make our final photo-stop at Urquhart Castle whose ruins sit overlooking the deepest part of the loch. It’s a popular spot with "Nessie-spotters”. From here it’s a short drive back to Inverness and the end of our tour.
Travelling on a Signature one-day tour is a great way to discover the best of Scotland from your city centre base of Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. During your day of discovery we’ll introduce you to many aspects of our country: spectacular scenery, history, folklore, nature and much, much more. Luxury travel is provided by air-conditioned mini or midi coaches and each tour is led by an experienced driver/guide who will provide a live commentary in English. There are stops planned at the key sights as well as for meals and comfort breaks. Please note that tours to some destinations, particularly to Loch Ness, can be faster paced so the number and duration of stops may be limited.
Meals are not included in the tour price, but we will make stops where you can get refreshments and something to eat. If you wish, you can bring a packed lunch or pick up lunch items at a previous stop. Vegetarian food is widely available in Scotland.
The seating on the coach is not allocated so you are free to sit in any vacant seat. We recommend that groups arrive at the boarding point together so that you can be seated in the same part of the coach.
Almost certainly not! Our tours are designed to maximise your sightseeing opportunities so we frequently head off the main road and take routes where there is little or no public transport available. Please also bear in mind that the tour commentary that you will enjoy is designed to bring Scotland’s history, nature and scenic beauty to life as you travel around. Reading about your surroundings from a guide book will just not be the same!
We know that you will want to start your tour straight away rather than spending valuable time travelling around hotels. By offering a single centrally located departure point we can get you to Scotland’s best scenery as quickly as possible .
