Full Tour Itinerary
We leave Edinburgh and head westwards passing Linlithgow Palace, location for Inverness Prison in the TV series. At Stirling we’ll get a good view of its impressive Castle and the Wallace Monument situated atop Abbey Craig.
Soon we reach the little village of Doune to visit Doune Castle which is situated overlooking the River Teith. This is one of Scotland’s best preserved medieval castles and it was used as a setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander. You’ll have time to discover this historic stronghold which also featured as Winterfell in Game of Thrones and had a starring role in Monty Python’s Holy Grail.
Our tour continues into the Kingdom of Fife, a region of great historical significance and the ancestral stronghold of the Scottish monarchs. We make a visit to Culross, where Claire was accused of witchcraft in the village of ‘Cranesmuir’. This attractive village is the most complete example of a 17th and 18th-century town in Scotland today.
Our lunch stop will be in the village of Falkland, used for filming 1940’s Inverness. This historic village was the country seat of the Stuart Monarchs in the 17th Century. Look out for its impressive castle and, in the grounds, the oldest tennis court in Britain!
Our journey continues to another two Outlander sites, Dysart Harbour used as the French port of Le Havre and our final stop at Midhope Castle*, the setting for Lallybroch. It is a short drive into the centre of Edinburgh and the end of our tour.
Please note that there are dates throughout the year where Midhope Castle is closed for estate activity and filming.
