Full Tour Itinerary
Your adventure begins in the centre of Inverness, as you board our comfortable 16-seater mini-coach. With the Highlands waking up around us, we set off westwards along the legendary shores of Loch Ness—keep a lookout for a glimpse of Nessie while your guide shares the myths and stories of Scotland’s most famous loch.
Passing through the peaceful village of Invermoriston, the landscape soon transforms into rugged wilderness, dotted with ancient ruins. Your guide will reveal the dramatic history that shaped these remote glens. As we travel west, the striking peaks of the Five Sisters of Kintail come into view, heralding our approach to the coast and the crossing to the Isle of Skye via the Skye Bridge.
Our first stop is the breathtaking Sligachan, framed by the dramatic Cuillin mountains. Here, we'll stroll along the old stone bridge and visit the climbers' memorial before wandering deeper into the landscape, past clear streams and ancient rowan trees.
Next, we arrive in Portree, Skye’s vibrant harbour town. You’ll have 45 minutes to explore the pastel-painted waterfront, browse local shops, or walk to The Apothecary Tower for stunning panoramic views.
We then head north to discover the magical Fairy Glen—a surreal landscape of cone-shaped hills and craggy outcrops. Climb up to Castle Ewen and soak in the glen’s enchanted beauty.
Our journey continues to the striking Quiraing, an otherworldly expanse of landslips and cliffs. Here, you can join a short hike or simply marvel at the rugged scenery, featured in films like Stardust and Prometheus.
A real highlight follows: hiking to the legendary Old Man of Storr, an epic basalt pinnacle towering above the island. The trail offers breathtaking views across the Sound of Raasay and the Cuillins beyond.
Before returning to Inverness, we’ll stop for a photo opportunity at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. As the sun sets, sit back and relax—your guide will keep the journey lively with Highland tales and music. Expect to arrive back in Inverness around 9pm, with a head full of unforgettable memories from Scotland’s most stunning landscapes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect on this hiking day tour?
This hiking tour will let you experience the very best of the Isle of Skye. During the journey from Inverness, your experienced driver/guide will introduce you to many aspects of our country: spectacular scenery, history, folklore, nature, and much more.
With more than 7 hours planned on the island, you will have time to explore Portree, the island’s main town and enjoy guided hikes at Slighachan (Cuillin Mountains); Fairy Glen; Quirang and The Old Man of Storr.
Luxury travel is provided by air-conditioned mini coach. Although stops are planned for meals and comfort breaks, we recommend bringing snacks and cold drinks.
What should I bring and wear?
Sturdy footwear is a must, as you will trek across uneven and occasionally muddy trails. You should opt for hiking trainers or boots. Pack a waterproof jacket and a warm layer like a fleece or jumper. Waterproof over-trousers are a bonus, especially if a sudden downpour hits.
Bring a small rucksack to carry extra layers, water, and snacks to keep you fuelled.
Jeans get uncomfortable when wet and are slow to dry, making movement difficult.
While midge repellent isn’t usually necessary due to the typically windy conditions on Skye, calm weather may attract them at Sligachan. In that case, Smidge is an excellent choice to keep the tiny biters at bay.
Can I reserve specific seats on the coach?
Seating on this tour is on a first come, first served basis and cannot be pre-booked. If you are travelling as part of a group please make sure that all members of the party arrive at the departure point together. On the train journey from Inverness to Edinburgh (or Glasgow) you will have allocated seats.
I’ve missed my tour because I was late, can I get a refund?
We’re sorry but refunds or credits won’t be issued if you miss your tour because you are not at the departure point on time.
In fairness to all our passengers coaches will not wait if you are late.
Can I bring my dog with me?
We are really sorry but we are unable to carry dogs (except guide dogs) on our tours.
