The Jacobite Steam Train
The operation of the 2024 Jacobite Steam Train timetable has been suspended. This is because the Office of Road and Rail (ORR), who are responsible for safety regulation on Britain’s rail network, are considering an application from West Coast Railways, who are the operators of the Jacobite Steam Train, to run vintage passenger carriages on the UK Main Line.
The carriages that make up the Jacobite Steam Train are not fitted with modern safety equipment such as central locking and can only be used with special dispensation.
Until the ORR issues a new exemption certificate, the Jacobite Steam Train cannot operate. No timeline has been provided for when or if a certificate will be issued.

Update on 09 April 2024
Jacobite Steam Train services up to and including 18 April 2024 have been cancelled.
I have booked a tour that includes a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train. What will happen?
If the Jacobite Steam Train is not operational by the time of your tour departure, we will contact you to let you know the options available.
One Day Tours
You will be given the choice of selecting a different tour or a full refund.
Multi Day Tours
The tour will operate as planned. The tour will travel between Fort William and Mallaig (or v.v) by road, and a refund of the train fare will be provided.
The route that the coach will follow is similar to the train line, so you will still see the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct and experience the beautiful scenery that the area is famed for.
