Isle of Skye and Glenfinnan with Castle Stay – 4-Day Tour from Edinburgh

Our four-day Scottish adventure begins as we leave Edinburgh and travel west, passing historic Stirling on our way to the picturesque Highland town of Callander, where we'll stop for refreshments.

Continuing north, we follow the shores of Loch Lubnaig and travel through Strathyre before climbing the Black Mount to reach the wilderness of Rannoch Moor.

Soon, we'll arrive in magnificent Glen Coe, one of Scotland's most spectacular glens, where imposing mountains provide a dramatic backdrop for our photo stop.

There will be time for lunch at the Glen Coe Visitor Centre before we continue along the shores of Loch Linnhe to Fort William, situated beneath mighty Ben Nevis.

Our journey then follows the scenic Road to the Isles to Glenfinnan, where we'll stop to admire the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, featured in the Harry Potter films. Nearby stands the Glenfinnan Monument, commemorating the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

From Glenfinnan, we travel to the fishing port of Mallaig, where we'll board the ferry for a scenic crossing of the Sound of Sleat to the magical Isle of Skye.

We'll stay in the Broadford or Kyleakin area for the next two nights.

Today we explore the magical Isle of Skye, famous for its rugged mountains, spectacular coastline, and magnificent natural beauty.

Our journey leads us north to the dramatic Trotternish Peninsula, where we'll discover some of Skye's most recognisable landmarks.

Marvel at the impressive Old Man of Storr, a remarkable pinnacle of rock, before continuing to Kilt Rock, where the 90-metre wall of basalt rock resembles the pleats of a kilt. Here the waters of the Mealt Falls cascade into the Sound of Raasay below.

We'll stop for lunch in Portree, Skye's picturesque capital, where colourful harbourfront buildings, inviting cafés and independent shops create a lovely setting.

Next, we'll visit the famous Talisker Whisky Distillery, where there will be an opportunity to browse the shop and sample a dram of Skye's celebrated single malt whisky.

The highlight of the afternoon is a visit to the Fairy Pools in Glenbrittle. Set beneath the mighty Cuillin Mountains, these crystal-clear pools and tumbling waterfalls are among Skye's most popular natural attractions.

Our final stop is at Sligachan, where the dramatic peaks of the Cuillin Hills provide a wonderful setting for photographs.

We'll then return to our accommodation for a second night on the Isle of Skye.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to the Isle of Skye and cross back to the mainland, where our first stop is one of Scotland's most photographed landmarks, Eilean Donan Castle.

Standing on a tiny island where three sea lochs meet, this romantic Highland fortress has appeared in numerous films, including Highlander. We'll have time to explore the castle and discover its fascinating history.

Our journey continues through the magnificent mountain scenery of Glen Shiel before reaching the picturesque village of Fort Augustus, situated at the southern end of Loch Ness.

Here, we'll stop for lunch and enjoy time to explore the village, watch boats travelling through the locks of the Caledonian Canal or admire the views across Scotland's most mysterious loch. Keep an eye out for Nessie!

In the afternoon, we travel through Glen Spean and the beautiful scenery of the Cairngorms National Park before arriving in the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry for a short stop.

Our final destination is historic Broomhall Castle, set beneath the Ochil Hills. This impressive Scottish castle hotel affords a memorable setting for our final overnight stay.

After breakfast at Broomhall Castle, we'll make the short journey to historic Stirling, a city that has played a central role in Scotland's turbulent past.

Our first visit is to the impressive National Wallace Monument, which commemorates Sir William Wallace, one of Scotland's greatest national heroes. It stands high above the city on Abbey Mount, and offers magnificent views across the surrounding countryside.

Next, we'll have the chance to explore mighty Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most important royal fortresses. Discover its magnificent Great Hall, beautifully restored Royal Palace and fascinating connections with Mary, Queen of Scots.

From Stirling, we'll travel to the nearby Bannockburn Battlefield, where the Scots led by Robert the Bruce secured a famous victory over the English army in 1314. The visitor exhibition tells the story of one of the most significant battles in Scotland’s battle for independence.

Our final stop is at the magnificent Kelpies near Falkirk. Standing 30 metres tall, these enormous horse-head sculptures celebrate Scotland's industrial heritage and the powerful working horses that helped shape the country.

After a memorable four days exploring the Highlands, Isle of Skye and Scotland's historic castles, we'll return to Edinburgh, where our tour concludes.
