We leave Edinburgh and head north west into Stirlingshire, catching a view of the arresting Stirling Castle, before stopping at Kilmahog for a snack and an opportunity to get a good look at some long horned "Heilan Coos (Highland Cows).
We continue on our journey passing through the area that was home to the folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor. Soon we reach the rugged wilderness of Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount, arriving at Glencoe, possibly the most well-known of Scotlands glens and the location of the massacre of Clan MacDonald in 1692. We stop here to give you a chance to take some photographs, and to fully appreciate the melancholic atmosphere of this legendary glen.
By way of Loch Linnhe, we arrive in Fort William where well have a stop for lunch and then journey on through the exceptional scenery of the Great Glen and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain.
Further on we pass the remarkable Caledonian Canal, and the attractive, bustling small village of Fort Augustus. As we travel along the shoreline of Loch Ness we are afforded stunning views of the Loch, on the approach to iconic Urquhart Castle. Loch Ness is 24 miles long and over 700 feet deep, and is mostly known for reports of the appearance of its famous resident, Nessie, the Loch Ness monster. Youll have the chance to do your own Nessie spotting as we linger at Loch Ness for roughly 2 hours. While here, you have the option of taking a fantastic cruise or the opportunity to walk around the predominantly ruined Urquhart Castle, and discover its history in the visitor centre.
After we drive on to Inverness, known as the Capital of the Highlands, our tour will begin to head back home, taking in the Grampian Mountains and Perthshires stunning Forest of Atholl.
We stop for a refreshment in Pitlochry, a Victorian era town famously admired by Queen Victoria, before commencing our return to Edinburgh and the end of the Loch Ness tour.
