From the centre of Inverness you will travel by luxury mini-coach along the banks of the Caledonian Canal to the Bona Narrows. It was here that St Columba is said to have come face to face with "NessieĒ in 565AD!

Soon the canal broadens to become Loch Ness and we meander our way enjoying wonderful views at every turn. At the Clansman Visitor Centre a cruiser awaits to take us for a 30 minute cruise on Loch Ness. Here we will sail the deepest waters of the loch which is where Nessie has been seen the most Ė was that a wave or a fin?

Urquhart Castle is strategically located on a rocky promontory sticking out into the deepest part of Loch Ness. Whoever held this castle controlled the Great Glen and as such it changed hands on numerous occasions. The MacDonalds and the Grants held Urquhart as did the English for a period. It was deliberately blown up in 1691 and today the atmospheric ruins are ours to discover. There are great views over Urquhart Bay to savour and you can learn more about the castle at the award-winning audio-visual presentation.

Make the short drive to discover more about the many attempts to discover the monster at the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre in Drumnadrochit. During your visit youíll learn about the rumours, the hoaxes and the truths of what may really live in Loch Ness.

All too soon itís time to board your coach from the return journey to Inverness.

Tell me more about Urquhart Castle?
Wild natural beauty and 1,000 years of history - Urquhart Castle offers a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic.
Discover 1,000 years of drama, experience a glimpse of medieval life and enjoy stunning views over Loch Ness from the ruins of the greatest castle in the Highlands.
Climb the Grant Tower that watches over the iconic loch, peer into a miserable prison cell, said to have held the legendary Gaelic bard Domhnall Donn, and imagine the splendid banquets staged in the great hall. A more comfortable view of the iconic ruins, against a backdrop of Loch Ness and the hills of the Great Glen, can be enjoyed from the café. Urquhartís stories are also told through a remarkable collection of artefacts left by its residents, historic replicas, including a full-sized, working trebuchet siege engine, and a short film.
The castle has a distinctly Highland heritage and the site has witnessed some of the most dramatic chapters in our nationís history. This is where St Columba is said to have worked miracles in the 6th century, where acts of chivalry and defiance provided inspiration during the Wars of Independence and where the MacDonald Lords of the Isles struggled with the Crown for power.
What should I wear?
Wear layers as the temperature on the loch can vary. We recommend bringing a rain jacket, just in case!
Will there be a tour commentary?
An experienced driver/guide will host the coach tour portion of the tour. They will provide an informative and entertaining commentary in English.
