Frequently Asked Questions

What will I experience on this Signature Day Tour?
Travelling on a Signature one-day tour from Edinburgh is a great way to discover more of Scotland. During your journey we’ll introduce to many aspects of our country: spectacular scenery, history, folklore, nature and much, much more. As with all our tours this excursion has been carefully designed to entertain and inform you. There are stops planned at the key sights including Inveraray and Doune Castle. In addition there will be time for lunch in Tyndrum. On this relaxing tour there may also be additional photo-stops. Your tour will be led by an experienced driver/guide who will provide a live commentary in English. You can learn more about the features of this tour by checking the FAQ’s on this page. Our signature day tours are very popular and often sell-out. We recommend booking on-line as soon as your travel plans are finalised.
Will there be a tour commentary?
Each tour is led by an experienced driver/guide who will provide an informative and entertaining commentary in English. You’ll hear tales of the Clans, bloody battles and the famous characters that have shaped the history of Scotland. You will learn too of the landscape that surrounds you and of the nature that makes Scotland so special. Be ready to have a laugh as well - you’re bound to be told some really corny jokes!
Tell me more about Inveraray Castle?
Romantic Inveraray Castle Gardens sits on the shores of Loch Fyne and is one of Scotland’s finest stately homes. The ruggedness of the highland scenery serves as a spectacular backdrop for the sheltered tidal Loch, beside which nestles the present Castle built between 1745 and 1790.The ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll, Chiefs of the Clan Campbell whose family have resided in Inveraray since the early 15th century. Visitors enter the famous Armoury Hall containing some 1300 pieces including Brown Bess muskets, Lochaber axes and 18th century Scottish broadswords. They can also view preserved swords from the Battle of Culloden. The fine State Dining Room and Tapestry Drawing Room contain magnificent French tapestries which were woven especially for the Castle, fabulous examples of Scottish, English and French furniture and countless other precious artworks. The castle’s priceless collection of china, silver and family heirlooms spans generations which are illustrated by the fascinating genealogical display in the Clan Room. Fans of Downton Abbey will recall that Inveraray had a starring role during a two-hour special where the Grantham family and staff travelled north to the home of their cousins, the Marquess and Marchioness of Flintshire in their mythical Scottish home, ‘Duneagle Castle’.
Inveraray Castle is open to the public between April and October.
How many people will be in the group?
The group size is normally between 29 and 33 passengers. At times of peak demand (such as on public holidays) larger coaches may be used.
What features will the coach have?
You will usually travel in a modern eco-friendly mini or midi touring coach which is equipped with air-conditioning, comfortable reclining seats, large picture windows and seat belts. Please note that the coach does not have an on-board toilet - stops will be made where there are public toilets available.
Will there be stops for meals and are they included in the price of the tour?
Meals are not included in the tour price, but we will make stops where you can get refreshments and something to eat. If you wish, you can bring a packed lunch or pick up lunch items at a previous stop. Vegetarian food is widely available.
Do you offer a hotel pick-up service?
We know that you will want to start your tour straight away rather than spending valuable time travelling around hotels. By offering a single centrally located departure point we can get you to Scotland’s best scenery as quickly as possible.
Can I book seats on the coach?
The seating on the coach is not allocated so you are free to sit in any vacant seat. We recommend that groups arrive at the boarding point together so that you can be seated in the same part of the coach.
