Full Tour Itinerary
From Edinburgh, we make our way northwards passing Stirling Castle, standing atop a volcanic core, guarding the city and the surrounding countryside. As we enter the village of Doune look out for the ancient castle overlooking the River Teith. Its had a starring roll in Game of Thrones and Outlander, as Castle Leoch.
Soon we enjoy our first stop of the day amongst the beauty of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Shortly we cross into the Highlands and enjoy fantastic loch-side views of Loch Lubnaig.
There is a pause in our ascent of the “Black Mount” so you can enjoy the beautiful views of Loch Tulla below. The vastness of remote Rannoch Moor is next. It extends as far as the eye can see and is one of Europe’s last true wildernesses.
Listen in awe as your guide tells you the sad tale of the Glen Coe massacre then soak up the atmosphere for yourself when we stop in this majestic valley for photographs.
Fort William and towering Ben Nevis is our next treat. There’s a stop in the area for lunch before entering the glacier-carved scenery of the Great Glen.
Our main stop of the day will be in Fort Augustus which sits at the southern end of Loch Ness. There is plenty of time for a leisurely lunch and a stroll along the banks of the loch. Alternatively, why not take to the water on an optional cruise? Keep a careful watch as you sail over the dark and mysterious waters of Scotland’s most famous loch - was that the monster or just a trick of the light?
From Spean Bridge, we strike out through Glen Spean and make our way into the Cairngorms National Park. Along the way, we pass picturesque Loch Laggan and Ardverikie House, “Glenbogle” in the famous “Monarch of the Glen” TV series and “Balmoral Castle” in the latest series of “The Crown”.
The lonely village of Dalwhinnie means “meeting place” in Gaelic, and from here we start our descent through the Grampian Mountains to reach the attractive town of Pitlochry, a firm favourite with tourists since Victorian times.
The last part of our journey takes us through the gentle scenery of Highland Perthshire and onwards to the Kingdom of Fife. Look out for the historic Forth Railway Bridge to our left and the new Queensferry Crossing to our right as we cross the sweeping Forth Road Bridge and make our way back into Edinburgh.
