Full Tour Itinerary
Welcome aboard Edinburgh’s scariest ghost tour. Tonight we’ll uncover Edinburgh’s darkest secrets as we get behind the respectable facade of Scotland’s Capital City to hear stories of murders, witchcraft and spooky goings-on!
During our entertaining tour we’ll hear the tale of Edinburgh Castle’s ghostly piper - if you listen carefully you might just catch the eerie wail of the bagpipes as he patrols the castle dungeons! Nestling at the bottom of Castle Rock we’ll find the ancient Grassmarket. This was the site of the public gallows where hundreds were dispatched in front of enthusiastic crowds of Edinburgh residents. We’ll discover the stories behind some of those who made the one-way journey to this dark and dismal place.
Learn the gruesome tale of the body snatchers, Burke and Hare, Edinburgh’s most ghoulish residents. They used to patrol the city’s graveyards snatching the bodies of the recently buried. When they couldn’t keep up with the demand for fresh corpses they decided to streamline their operation to murderous effect!
Later, if you are brave enough, step from the protection of your ghost tour bus to explore ancient Greyfriars Kirkyard, home to Edinburgh's most notorious poltergeist - is there really safety in numbers? Only time will tell!
Safely back on-board our tour bus we will continue our spell-binding journey along the ancient Royal Mile. Hear stories of Deacon Brodie, who was the real-life inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s popular tale “Jekyll and Hyde” and the residents of Mary King’s Close who all perished during the plague of 1645. At foot of Edinburgh’s most historic street lies the Palace of Holyroodhouse, forever linked to the tragic story of Mary, Queen of Scots. Learn how she witnessed the brutal murder of her secretary, David Rizzio, here in 1556.
