Scenic Applecross

from Inverness

INCLUDES: Transportation by superior air-conditioned mini-coach; services of a tour host; service charges and taxes.

A day of scenic beauty as we travel to one of the remotest areas of Scotland—the Applecross Peninsula. This relaxing day trip is a wonderful antidote to the stress of modern-day travel!

Our journey commences with a drive across the Black Isle to Garve and the village of Achnasheen beyond. Our first stop will be in the pleasant village of Lochcarron, which sits on Loch Carron. We’ll take a detour to Ardarroch where there are good views over Loch Kishorn to the mountains on the opposite shore. Next we make the dramatic climb over the Bealach nam Bo, which means the Pass of the Cattle, in Gaelic. The Pass is the third highest road in Britain and climbs to over 2,000 feet! We stop at the summit for breathtaking views across to Raasay and the Isle of Skye (weather permitting!) before commencing our descent to Applecross Village.

On our arrival in Applecross we can spend some quality time enjoying the spectacular seascapes or discovering the sad tale of the highland clearances at the local heritage centre. In this area wildlife abounds—nature lovers look out for red deer, pine martens (one of the rarest of British mammals) and otters.

From Applecross we will make our way along the banks of Loch Torridon to Shieldaig where we will make a further stop before travelling through the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve to Kinlochewe. From Achnasheen we will retrace our outward journey to Inverness.
