Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs
from Glasgow
This fascinating tour will introduce you to the history of Stirling, with its famous castle and the natural beauty of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
We start our tour with a drive through the picturesque Campsie Fells, passing pretty Glengoyne Malt Whisky Distillery, before making the first stop of the day at Balmaha, by the "bonnie, bonnie banks” of Loch Lomond. To the north striking mountains guard the "Queen of all Britain’s lakes” while, to the south, islands span the loch like giant stepping stones!
The Trossachs is a wonderful area of lochs and mountains that is rightly known as the "Highlands in Miniature”. From the pretty village of Aberfoyle the coach climbs the dramatic Dukes Pass to reach Loch Katrine whose natural beauty inspired Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem "The Lady of the Lake”. After some free time amongst this wonderful scenery we continue our drive through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and long the banks of Loch Venachar to the popular Victorian holiday town of Callander.
A real highlight is our visit to the medieval city of Stirling. Here there is an opportunity to visit Stirling Castle (optional). The castle overlooks the ancient city of Stirling and is one of the historic buildings that have come to symbolise the spirit of Scotland. Our extended stop in Stirling will allow a leisurely visit to the Castle or a chance to explore the city itself.
After our time in Stirling we join the motorway for the short journey back to Glasgow.
