Tour Summary

Poetry, culture and history - your tour of Britain takes you from ancient cathedral cities of York and Chester to the Neolithic monuments of Stonehenge. Through spectacular countryside to Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-Avon, Wordworth’s Lake District and historic Edinburgh, Britain’s fascinating history will be revealed.

Day 1: From London travel to Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon then onwards to historic York. Tonight enjoy a welcome reception.

Day 2: Stop at Hadrian’s Wall before crossing into Scotland. Tour through rolling Border scenery before arriving at your hotel.

Day 3: This morning enjoy a city tour of Edinburgh including a visit to Edinburgh Castle. Afternoon is free.

Day 4: Today travel to the picturesque Lake District and see Lake Windermere. Later drive to Liverpool to hear the story of The Beatles.

Day 5: Drive to charming Ludlow before crossing into Wales and exploring Cardiff.

Day 6: Back in England stop in wonderful Bath to visit the Roman Baths. Later explore Stonehenge before returning to London.

Day One
London – Stratford-upon-Avon – York
Enjoy a scenic drive and visit Shakespeare's birthplace and Visitor Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon. View Anne Hathaway's thatched cottage. Later in York, view York Minster and walk along the famous Shambles. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Reception with a traditional pub meal. It's the ideal opportunity to get to know your Travel Director and fellow travellers.

Day Two
York – Hadrian’s Wall – Edinburgh/Falkirk
Head north and cross the River Tyne at Newcastle. Stop and view Hadrian's Wall before crossing into ‘Bonnie Scotland'. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Scottish border country before arriving at your hotel.
Overnight: Holiday Inn, Edinburgh/Inchyra Hotel and Spa, Falkirk (or similar)
Day Three
Edinburgh Sightseeing and Free Time
This morning discover the elegance of Edinburgh with your local guide on an included city sightseeing tour. See the Royal Mile in the Old Town. View the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Arthur's Seat. Your choice of sightseeing means you could chose to visit either Edinburgh's Camera Obscura or Edinburgh Castle.
Spend free time exploring on your own or join your Travel Director on an Optional Experience to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. Tonight why not attend a lively Scottish banquet with traditional haggis and bagpipes? During the Edinburgh Festival your visit includes tickets to the spectacular Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Day Four
Falkirk – Lake District – Liverpool
Stop at Gretna Green, a town popular with eloping couples. Here the marriage ceremony was traditionally performed across a blacksmith's anvil. Admire the views throughout the scenic Lake District. These scenes provided William Wordsworth with the inspiration to write the poem ‘Daffodils'. Visit the town of Grasmere and see St. Oswald's church where the poet is buried. Later arrive in Liverpool, hometown of the 'Fab Four'.
Overnight: Novotel/Jury’s Inn, Liverpool (or similar)
Day Five
Liverpool – Ludlow – Cardiff
Visit the Tudor market town of Ludlow with its historic castle and timbered buildings. See the Malvern Hills as you cross into Wales and visit its capital, Cardiff. See Cardiff Bay, the Millennium Stadium and the Castle before arriving at your hotel. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local vineyard with beautiful views of the Welsh countryside.
Overnight: Mercure Highland House/Clayton Hotel, Cardiff (or similar)
Day Six
Cardiff – Bath – London
Visit Bath and view the Abbey before visiting the Roman Baths. At Stonehenge visit the mystical stone monoliths before returning to London where your memorable holiday ends.

In rural locations your accommodation will be in the best available hotels. Breakfast is usually a buffet, where you can choose from cereals, yoghurts and the bread basket. From the hot plate you’ll be able to select from freshly grilled items and local specialities.
A stop is usually made for lunch in a town or city where there is a choice of restaurants available.Dinner is usually enjoyed as a group and the menu will be table d’hote, which means a selection of house specials. On some tours there will be a featured meal such as a Scottish evening, with bagpipers, dancing demonstrations and a taste of haggis!
What type of room should I choose?
Selecting the right sleeping arrangements can be a little bit confusing so here is a description of what you can expect from the hotel accommodation offered as part of your tour:
Single room - this is a room for one person sleeping in a single bed. Twin room - this is a room for two people sleeping in two separate bedsDouble room - this is a room for two people sharing one large bed Family room - this is a room for three people sleeping in one large bed (2 people) and one single bed (1 person). Please note that a family room is normally a standard double or twin room with either a sofa bed or a rollaway bed. All room types other than twins are subject to availability.
How much luggage can I bring?
You can bring one suitcase and one carry-on bag per person. The maximum weight allowance and luggage dimensions varies by tour so you should check the tour documentation for the luggage policy that applies to your tour.
What meals are included?
One of the great things about travelling on an Escorted Tour is the generous number of meals included as standard. Start the day with a freshly cooked breakfast or, if you prefer, there’s always a lighter continental option available too. You’ll find that some evening dinners included which will give you the opportunity of sampling some local delicacies. Check the "What’s Included” list for the exact number of meals that are featured on this tour. 
Can you arrange pre-tour accommodation?

Can I reserve specific seats on the coach?
Seats cannot be pre-booked however your tour director will implement a seat rotation system which will allow all passengers the opportunity of experiencing spectacular views from different seats on the motorcoach. 
How many people will be on the tour?
The number of people travelling on an Escorted Tour will not normally be more than 50 passengers. 
Are airport transfers included?
This tour will depart from a Central London departure point that can easily be reached by public transport. Airport transfers are not offered on this tour.
